Transitioning from Manual Testing to Automated Testing

The Journey – Transitioning to Automated Testing

Automated Testing Journey

I love working with teams to transition from manual testing to automated testing. One of my favorite things is walking with teams in that journey and helping shine a light out in front of them. If you don’t know the path or can’t see ahead, it can be scary.

What if we choose the wrong tool?

What happens to testers that can’t code?

How does our process change?

What will maintenance for automated tests be like?

These are a few of the questions we get from clients. I work very hard to help create confidence in the path ahead. I’ve been down this path many times. My team and I know the way.

It’s important to me that my clients know the intricacies of the landscape. That the jungle of strategic planning ahead may take a toll on us, but it isn’t as deep and thick as it looks – and there is water and rest on the other side in the form of confidence in what the system under test does. That the canyon between us and frequently running, consistent, reliable test cases is bridged, but it is a trek from here. That this path is well worn because your competitors have already been down it and my team knows how to catch them and get ahead.

On the other hand, there are some iconic natural monuments along the way. And what’s better than road trip with the right people?

The simple fact is, if you’re not already using automation to empower your testers, you’re behind. Idleness and fear will not change that. Only you can make the decision to move forward in this new expedition.
